GRF Davos at the IHDP Open Meeting 2009 – 7th Open Meeting of the International Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, "Social Challenges of Global Change"

 

27 - 30 April 2009 in Bonn, Germany

 

For the 7th time the IHDP community came together for their Open Meeting to exchange and discuss on the human dimensions of global change and the pathways to a more sustainable future. This time under the motto "Social Challenges of Global Change". GRF was represented by Dr. Walter Ammann and Dr. Myriam Poll at this event that gathered around 1000 participants - scientists, policy makers, young scholars as well as representatives of the private sector, NGO's and the media.

Walter Ammann, together with Ortwin Renn (University of Stuttgart, Germany), James Painter (BBC World Service, UK), Ranjitha Balasubramanyam (Deutsche Welle Radio, Germany), Stefan Krug (Greenpeace, Germany) and Richard Klien (Stockholm Environment Institute, Sweden), discussed on the role of media in environmental news in the public round table "Catastrophe Sells" on Tuesday evening. As part of the panel of the Plenary Session on "Social Equity, Cohesion & Sustainable Adaptation" he reported on the 10 most challenging issues we are facing today in this topic.

Additionally, many participants took the chance and informed themselves about the Global Risk Forum and its upcoming events at the GRF booth attended by Dr. Myriam Poll.
