On Monday 9 Nov. 2009, the “L’Institut Euro Méditerranéen en Science du Risque” (EMR) has been launched. EMR is a network of a number of university institutes around the Mediterranean sea and serves to coordinate the research efforts in the various risk sectors and disciplines. GRF’s president Walter Ammann has been invited to participate in a panel debate on the needs and topics in risk science. He emphasized the need for inter- and transdisciplinarity in risk science, the need to bridge the gap between science and practice and to accelerate the transfer of theoretical knowledge to applicable know-how and to focus more on future perspectives of global trends (in time, space, etc.), of consequences on sustainable development, poverty, hunger, ecosystems, etc..The panel has been moderated by Dr. Badaoui Rouhban, UNESCO Director on Disaster Prevention.
